Top Ten Favorite Comic Book Cartoon Openings

My dumbass waited too long to start on these top tens. By the time I'm done with it, it'll be 11PM. It's still Saturday so here's my Top Ten Comic Book Cartoon Openings.

10. Legion of Super Heroes Intro "Main Title Theme" by Kristopher Carter

It's nice to see a Texan here on this list. This is a simple energetic action packed intro that highlights the heroes and villains of the show. Two bad it only lasted two seasons.

9. Batman: The Brave And Bold Intro "Batman The Brave And The Bold Theme" by Andy Sturmer

Since this is a more light hearted Batman series, Sturmer masterfully presented that by giving the theme a 60's era vibe. His greatest contribution to music may be giving Puffy their name.

8. Static Shock Intro "Static Shock Superhero" by Lil' Romeo and Master P (Courtesy of The New No Limit Records)

I can't name a single Lil' Romeo song. I may have heard one in passing before but the only one I remember is the theme he did for Static Shock in season 3 and 4. With all the changes they made starting with season 3 like Virgil's new outfit, him gaining some muscle and meeting new heroes (including Richie becoming Gear), the change in music fits well.

7. Teen Titans Intro "Teen Titans Theme" by Puffy AmiYumi

Speaking of Puffy, or should I say Puffy AmiYumi since we already have a Puffy here in America, Sam Register suggested they be used to do the intro and Sturmer's association with them sealed the deal. They went for a spy movie type singalong with the theme being sung in English for the serious canon episodes and in Japanese for the silly filler episodes. I knew I liked this (and Teen Titans Go!) for some reason, maybe I'll watch Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi as well.

6. Batman Beyond Intro "Batman Beyond (Main Title)" by Kristopher Carter

Kristopher Carter returns to the list with this futuristic cyberpunk styled theme. Even today, it's still looks like it's from a far off future. And to think, "nobody wanted" to do this show at first.

5. The Batman Intro "The Batman Series Theme" by The Edge (courtesy of Universal International Music B.V.)

Well shit, it was The Edge of U2 who created The Batman's first theme. The guitar sounds so haunting and mysterious, I love it! Sturmer's 60's inspired later intro isn't half bad either.

4. Spider-Man (1994) Intro "Main Theme" by Joe Perry

We have another bomb ass theme done by a legendary guitarist, this time by Joe Perry of Aerosmith! It's another one of those shows where I don't remember episodes but the theme sticks in my head. Also, Shuki Levy had a hand in the theme as well so kudos to him too.

3. TMNT (2003) Intro "Turtles Theme" by Norman J. Grossfeld and Russell Velazquez

Since this is a 4Kids program, Grossfeld and Velazquez composed the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles theme. I liked the second version best when Casey, April and Splinter jumps in to beat up some Foot Ninjas midway through the song and Mikey holds up Shredder's helmet in triumph. All three versions of the theme are awesome either way as I don't count the last two seasons.

2. The Spectacular Spider-Man Intro "Spectacular Spider-Man Theme" by The Tender Box

I could've sworn this show lasted three seasons with the different variations to the intro they had. There's one with Gwen, one with Liz and one with Mary Jane and Gwen without her glasses. Also, The Tender Box made a music video with the full song, it's pretty neat.

Bonus: Men In Black: The Series Intro "Main Title" by Jim Latham

I didn't know Men In Black was a comic before now. I only knew about them because of the movies and cartoon it's based off of. And for someone with an extensive background in music, it's weird Jim Latham doesn't have a Wikipedia page. He deserves some respect for making this eerie theme as Agents J and K move their shoulders as they walk like badasses.

1. X-Men Intro "Main Theme"  by Ron Wasserman

X-Men had the hands down best superhero theme and surprise, surprise, Ron Wasserman is responsible for it. I don't think any future theme could top this unless Wasserman does it himself.
